Steps To Keep Natural Gas Available And Clean

By Frank Woods

New technology is the reason why natural gas is more reliable and more environmentally friendly. What this means is that more Americans can enjoy the warmth of clean natural gas without the chills about pollution.

Nearly a fourth of all the energy used in the United States is supplied by natural gas and the Department of Energy believe that's also expected to rise to 40% in the next 20 years.

Gas providers have provided a few hints to consider in order to keep your use to comfortable levels.

Doors and windows can be caulked or weatherstipped in order to seal out heat-stealing drafts. You can also seal switch plates and electric outlets.

Your attic or roof space should be insulated. This can cut heating costs by up to 30 percent.

Insulation should be wrapped around pipes in your basement and crawl space and wrap your hot-water heater with an insulating blanket.

Be sure to keep chairs and beds away from exterior walls.

Your windows should be kept clean. You should allow the sun to shine in to warm your home.

Try using ceiling fans. They force warm air down, so you can set your thermostat lower.

When your fireplace is not in use, you can keep the damper closed.

Tape a sheet of aluminum foil (shiny side out) to the wall behind radiators.

Don't put anything on top of a radiator. Radiators should not be blocked with drapes.

Try turning down the temperature on your hot-water heater to the warm setting (120). Not only will you save energy, you can also avoid scalding.

In order to automatically drop the temperature at night or when you won't be home, you can install a clock thermostat.

Install storm windows and doors.

Delivered via pipelines that stretch across the U.S. is nonpolluting natural gas. Powerful compressors are responsible for pushing along the gas. The compressors are then increasingly run by turbines with electric motors so that they are both nonpolluting and dependable. Constant speed motor is what it takes to drive the compressor through its mechanical speed-control system and this is just like the automatic transmission on an automobile. Because many pipeline operators use a Vorecon variable-speed mechanical transmission built by Voith Turbo, they are able to save money. They can then pass this saving on to consumers.

Because of this, a lot of people can be given the warm feeling that comes from saving cold cash.
