By Damian Hounslow

You will do well to study how to reduce your energy bills this winter by draught proofing your home. So much energy is lost through the walls and roofs of inefficient buildings.

The general public and governments have been taken aback at the severity of recent winters. People cannot understand how comes it has turned so cold and governments have been left embarrassed by their unpreparedness. However, surprise is understandable since we have all been led to believe that the world is undergoing global warming right now. People question how freezing temperatures fit in with what we have been told.

However, there are scientific theories that contend that the freezing is synonymous with the heating up of the planet. If you have seen the movie entitled the day after tomorrow, then you may be familiar to theories about the gulf stream being switched off as a result of the melting polar caps. The northern hemisphere could experience a sudden climate change to inhospitable subzero temperatures.

Even if you dismiss the hypothesis posed by the movie as hogwash, you will still have to debunk a number of other models. There are others which suggest that things could be get very chilly in the not too distant future. According to some theories, we have never really come out of the ice age, we have only enjoyed a temporary respite for the last few hundred years. The weather is set to resume to normal as of any time now. What we have seen of late could just be the beginning.

Another important reason for making winter plans is due to hikes in energy prices. As the world slips into deepening political crises and economic chaos, we can expect that oil and gas producing nations may fall into unrest thus hampering oil production. If that does not happen then they could start hoarding their supplies or and thus reducing supply. If this happened it could drive up the price.

All these problems beyond our control could have an effect on the cost of fuel prices. However, there are domestic problems too. For example, the economy is not recovering at the rate we had hoped. The bottom line is that we have less money to spend in our pockets. We are at risk of losing our jobs if we have not lost them already. We are in less of a position to afford expensive bills. People want to tighten the belts because of the credit crunch.

Do not waste time. Discover how to reduce your energy bills this winter by draught proofing your home. You never know when it will be too late.
