Indoor air quality refers to the quality of air inside structures and buildings. It relates to the health of the occupants. Air can be affected by gases such as carbon monoxide, radon, and volatile organic compounds. Molds and bacteria also affects it resulting to some health conditions. The use of ventilation is a primary method of improving its quality in buildings and houses.

Placing door mats can reduce any sort of chemicals and dirt to get inside your home.

Second way is keeping the level of humidity healthy. Maintain a temperature of 30 to 50 percent, and this will help in avoiding moisture which causes mold and dust mites. You can also use exhausting fans while you are cooking, bathing, or washing. Avoid watering indoor plants too much, air condition drip pans should be cleaned, and dry the clothes outside.

Third, your home should be a smoke free place. Secondhand smoke is one important aspect for this. A cigarette contains 4,000 chemicals. Secondhand smokers, such as children have higher risks in respiratory infections and ear infections, cancer, and asthma. Smokers themselves will suffer from heart attacks, stroke, problems in breathing, and cancer.

Fourth way is conducting a radon test. A radon is an odorless and a colorless gas which will increase the risk of cancer in the lungs. The test is easy, inexpensive, and lasts for a few minutes only.

Fifth is the area should smell good naturally. Using synthetic fragrances like in laundry detergents and fresheners may release different chemicals. Conventional detergents, fabric softeners, dryer sheets, and fresheners may release such gasses.
