Specialized Air Filter Testing And Usage

By Frances Russell

Did you know that your air strainers could likely last a lot longer than they currently do? Many people seem to think that the lifetime of this type of product is a lot shorter, but when you consider how poorly most people are treating their air strainers during their use, this kind makes sense. The thing is, proper cleaning plays a huge role in determining how long your strainers are going to live. The following takes us through specialized air filter testing.

Adhesives: Different glues and adhesives are chosen with no consideration to their chemical composition. These adhesives are chosen for their price, and drying time, quality of adhesion, there are several types of adhesives. Some are epoxy resins, others are hot melt adhesives, and some use cold glues and are vinyl based. Hot melt glues are extremely popular and are practically in every home.

These classifications are used by manufacturers to rate the air delivered by their products. In this way, users can easily compare and contrast the performance of different products. The caveat to this is that the test methods were originally developed to verify inflight quality in the system rather than testing the purification equipment which means that not all products are tested in the same way.

The selection of the correct in-flight strainer depends on specific parameters of use and location. Compressed air quality regulations are governed by the widespread and growing demands of industry. In manufacturing technology (for example, in food and beverage production, hospitals, electronics manufacturing or pharmaceuticals), quality of compressed air is relative to use and differs widely.

Filter frame: The mesh frame is made from metal, plastic or paper. This is the component I am least concerned about. However, plastics are becoming increasingly popular without regard to testing. In addition, most of the paper is treated with a moisture barrier in the fibers. These chemicals are regarded as proprietary from the paper mills.

Testing the strainer after it's been cleaned is important as well, but if the cleaning company is good enough to handle the actual cleaning part properly, then you can probably rest assured that they know what they're doing with regards to testing as well. A more effective company knows what to offer to the clients making them more efficient in their work of pleasing the customers.

The type of material and its weight, the thickness of layer, loss of pressure at nominal volume flow, volume flow per unit of surface and permissible static pressure difference are all considered in the specification of strainer material. However, due to the wide range of locations and conditions in which compressed air is used, these are only foundational specifications; there are other elements that need to be accounted for such as chemical and thermal resistance for example.

It's kind of hard to find good companies in this field nowadays, as this service has become so popular and the market for it has been suffering from a bit of an overcrowding lately. Just hire them for a test run if you're not sure what they can offer you, see how well they pull off the job, and if you're satisfied with that then work out the terms of a longer deal with them and see what they can offer you in terms of price and availability!
