Businesses, Do Your Bit To Conserve Energy - Start Going Green

By Johnny T Reader

It is one thing for men and women to go green in their homes, but what if every commercial enterprise turned into a green business? With all of the waste in the workforce, an astounding amount of money and energy can be saved with simply a little initiative. Reducing waste and making sure things are clean seem to belong to an ancient era. Previous generations, having lived in lean times, recognized the importance of being frugal.

It would prove immensely noteworthy if business enterprises went green, yet there are many easy ways in which they can do this. The office printer is a glaring example of business equipment that must be changed in the office. If offices used less paper, fewer trees would be required to be chopped down. An obvious way to drastically cut back on the paper used, would be to print on both sides. Trees are used to clean up the environment by taking in carbon dioxide, and converting it into oxygen, which would unquestionably help the atmosphere. Eliminating the use of paper is merely one way for an office to become environmentally friendly.

The vast internet spiderweb that spans the entire world, connecting people and business enterprises, should mean that a lessening in business travel could be accomplished. Holding business conferences in distant locations costs a lot in money and energy, a considerable amount of which may be saved. Business travel is often done in big automobiles and jet aircraft, which has a huge effect on the atmosphere and the planet's energy resources. The cost of jet travel can be replaced with the cheaper cost of video conferencing. Nowadays through the power of the internet, many jobs that are done in the office can be done at home, saving car travel, and office expenses. Though not everyone can carry out their jobs this manner, the overall scope for beneficial change is tremendous.

Using email instead of paper-based communications is a simple way for a commercial enterprise to become green. Just envision how much paper could be saved, if people would just start paying their bills over the onternet. Earth will be so much better, with more business tasks done electronically rather than with paper. The replacement of PCs and monitors with laptops provides businesses with another way for conserving energy. More or less 270 watts of energy are used by the desktop computer and monitor, whereas a laptop doesn't consume more than 50 watts. A big energy saver for laptops is when they have not been in use for 15 minutes, they enter sleep mode.

Despite what's frequently deducted from their name, screensavers utilize more energy than normal. The most effective way for a commercial enterprise to go green, and save a lot of money, would be to turn off all computers and laptops when they are not in use. If all commercial enterprises were to do this, sufficient energy would be saved to power the city of Chicago for an entire year.
