Why Use Floating Turbidity Curtians For Construction Zones

By Katrina Smith

What exactly floating turbidity curtain? A floating turbidity curtain can be a floating geotextile material placed being a barrier in the area to be able to minimize sediment transport from the disturbed area next to or in a body of water.

The demand for a floating turbidity curtains develops in an area when construction occurs on or near a waterway. These kinds of activities can cause increased turbidity in the water and brings about less desirable consequences to the body of water. Other conditions wherein there's a great need for turbidity curtain are soil erosions and disturbance because of humans.

The turbidity curtains functions by giving the solid particles time to settle instead of flowing into otherbody parts of water. It serves as a sedimentation protection for a watercourse from up-slope land disturbance. The floating turbidity curtain comes with floats and a ballast weight chain system that makes the curtain to be suspended in the water. They are a helpful tool in solving the dilemma of erosion and increased turbidity.

There are various negative effects that can happen when turbidity or suspended solids in the bodies of water is not contained. It will have a far reaching effect on your favorite fishing hole and diving reef or swimming area. In short it will ruin our natural resources. Another negative effect it has is with the fishes that thrive in this area. With increased turbidity the fishes canít see very well; they canít look for food normally and move around normally. Thus it will affect the normal life of aquatic animals.

It is therefore essential that for what ever activity that could include our own natural resources, particularly the bodies of water; proper guidelines and considerations should be followed to prevent unwanted effects that humans, animals and the obviously the best place we reside in are affected.
