What Is In Sewage

By Jason Restall

Sewage, also called waste-water, is water based waste that normally needs to be removed from a neighborhood. It always consists of physical, chemical or biological waste. There are various types of sewage, ranging from commercial, agricultural, sanitary as well as surface water-waste. Sewage is usually discharged from a property via a underground drainage system. It then should be carried off to be treated before being released in to the environment. There are many different techniques to treat sewage, and a lot of countries vary there approach. Surprisingly, with advanced technology, Singapore can now produce drinking water from sewage. Nevertheless this is the only place to do it, and as you can imagine this drinking water isn't very popular.

Any sewage that is from residential properties will contain human waste, cleaning products, which includes soaps and bleach, rubbish as well as other materials. Most of the time sewage will be toxic, and therefore needs to be dealt with as soon as possible.

In many countries there is a national sewage system, however not all houses are linked, depending on their location. If that is so then you will have to install and look after either a septic tank, sewage treatment plant or even a cesspool. Cesspools are merely used as a final option if a soak away can't be installed. A soak away is where the handled sewage water is discharged over a large sewage area. It consists of a network of perforated drains or crates, that lets the water drain naturally over a period of time back into the ground. Most people currently prefer the sewage treatment plant, as it is literally a small sewage plants, and the final result can be a unbelievable 98% cleaner than raw sewage.

Sewage often consists of organisms that contain disease, which have the potential to kill people and animals. It will also cause great damage to the environment. This pollution affects plants and organisms within a large radius of the raw sewage discharge.

For so many reasons we have to ensure that all kinds of sewage are gathered in a safe manner and the dealt with, ensuring that all harmful toxins are removed before the treated material is then reused.
