Perspectives On How Creationism And Evolution Coexist

By Tonia Michael

A dispute that has been recurring for many centuries is the belief and disbelief that creationism and evolution coexist. Extensive research has been carried out by both creationists and evolutionists in order to shed ample light on their respective beliefs regarding the origin of the universe. Because a creationist and evolutionist are left and right respectively, there are also those caught in the middle. The people in between are those that genuinely believe that both theories are connected.

A religious belief that has been around since the beginning of time itself proves to be Creationism. The belief holds the idea that God created all things, from the universe to mankind. The belief can also be likened to Intelligent Design, that God designed and subsequently created all things as He planned. In the context of the bible, there are two classifications of such religious belief. These classifications are the young earth and old earth.

The theory of evolution is proven to be the scientific counterpart of what creationists believe. This particular theory was conceived by Charles Darwin, a distinguished English naturalist. Evolutionists believe that the universe and most especially, all life forms, came to be through evolutionary processes. These processes occurred throughout the many generations. Furthermore, evolutionists believe that the process still continues.

For many centuries, creationists and evolutionists have disputed on how the universe and life originated. The debate began in the late eighteenth century primarily in North America and Europe. It was when certain interpretations of geology, which were relatively new at the time, led to theories of what is known as the ancient earth that creationists and evolutionists began to clash.

The ideas, which became persistent, eventually led to the fury of the state and church. Disputes began to cause turmoil to the fixed social order at the time. Hence, the ideas were ignored and even repressed. But as time went on, both parties continued to delve into research so as to prove their beliefs. Such persistence ultimately led to influence.

Although a creationist and evolutionist can be entitled to their own respective belief regarding the origins of the universe and life, there are many who believe that the two theories are connected and are compatible for coexistence. In the modern era, a number of creationists, particularly Christians, are beginning to accept the theory of coexistence. Some evolutionists, especially scientists who happen to follow the Christian religion, also believe in such possibility.

The two beliefs are said to exist together in the theory of Intelligent Design, as well as in the Biologos theory. Furthermore, the Theistic theory implies that God created the basics and eventually stepped back in order for what He created to evolve on their own. Simply put, God triggered the process and left to let it work by itself.

It is a fact that both creationists and evolutionists have established their stand on the debate. If you are either one or simply caught in between, you can never be certain. To go back in time would be the most plausible means of knowing the universe and its true origins.

Whatever theory you are siding with regarding how creationism and evolution coexist, one primary concept must always be accepted and followed. The concept of respect, towards other people and their individual beliefs and opinions, is what makes you and other people human. This is one concept that all people from different walks of life should agree on.
