Why Pre-1978 Lead Paint Needs To Be Removed

By Janine Hughes

Homeowners living in homes that were designed around the 1970 may have issues with leaded paints. The pre-1978 lead paint in San Diego, CA has caused many troubles in children and adults. When these particles are inhaled or ingested, they begin to induce health problems. Homeowners who have not inspected their houses need to do that for the safety of the people living there.

It is most likely that the homes contain paints with leaded compounds. Those older homes are likely to have paints that are now flaking and coming out. This further puts the people in those premises at danger as the particles of this metal are dispersed in air and grounds.

Buyers need to conduct inspections in homes they are buying before they close the deal to ensure they are purchasing properties that will promote their health and safety. Often, homebuyers rely on the inspection reports they get from sellers but these should not be very dependable. As a buyer, you should also make an effort to conduct your own investigation to clear any doubts and ensure what the seller presents in their reports is true.

If tenants know about it, ensures that care is taken when living in the house to prevent things that could cause the paints to flake or chip out. Contractors working on buildings designed in the period 1978 or before should ensure that they protect themselves. When the workers are exposed, it may result to complications.

Building owners should inform contractors about possible presence of lead in their homes before the work of renovation commences. This ensures that the contractor knows what to do to protect their workers and prevent inhalation and ingestion of the particles. The workers can even expose their families to the particles when they pick them in their clothes and transfer to their homes.

In addition, the workers may inhale or ingest those particles when working on those sites. Proper protection is needed and before the renovation begins, expert lead removal technicians may be called to remove the paints and discard them properly. In adults, exposure to the leaded particles for a long time may result to problems such as low appetite, reduced sensation, headaches, hypertension, and irritability.

Children are most affected especially the ones who below the age of six. Children who are exposed to these metal particles make suffer permanent nervous and brain system complications. They also experience behavioral and developmental changes including aggression, attention problems, and reduced IQ.

The changes in body systems may be permanent in children meaning that your child may have reduced IQ, attention problems, and aggression. Children under the age of six are most affected by such exposures. The buildup of such metal in body takes place slowly and there may be no immediately visible signs. It is only after a long time that the signs come out. However, at such a time, it may be late to save the situation.
