Recycled Plastic Makes a Great Source for The Ultimate Green Lumber

By Shai Warne

Unless you are involved in the construction industry, you probably are not familiar with the ultimate green lumber. For the environmentalist, this is the perfect product, and it can be found on numerous decks, and a great deal of deck furniture. Eco-lumber and plastic lumber are two of the more common names for the ultimate green lumber, but there are several others, including poly-wood, poly-wood, and permo-wood. This revolutionary material that has transformed the patio furniture industry is both economically viable and earth-friendly.

It may look like typical lumber in shape, but it is produced from plastic containers, like recycled milk jugs. It doesn't just look like lumber, it also has the same feel and can be tooled, cut and sawed like any normal piece of lumber. Some of the main uses are decking used for decks, for benches, for picnic tables, on top of patio furniture and equipment for playgrounds. This green product is a terrific way to use the ever-growing amount of plastics that are being recycled. Only a decade ago, 234 million pounds of plastic containers were recycled, and that number has now increased to 1.5 billion pounds.

Hardwood lumber does have a number of downsides, such as the chemical treatment it requires to protect it against insects. Over time, the wood will begin to rot when exposed outside, and it will require some form of refinishing, and sanding. Plastic lumber will not leak and pollute the soil because it contains no dangerous chemicals. Washing it down with a hose now and again is the only care that's needed. Plastic lumber can be successfully utilized in any climate, from salty, windy coastlands to icy winter areas through to tropical paradises.

This poly-wood should not be mistaken for some light, plastic product that has been constructed into chairs, like you see on many decks. Polywood is a heavy, dense material, and is supplied at 2x4 and 2x6 thicknesses. You can cut it just like normal hardwood, and screw it down like normal hardwood, also. It works well with stuff used on a deck or around a pool, and there are new things for it to be used for being thought up all the time. Lumber made out of recycled plastic materials is an alternative to normal hardwood lumber that is cost-effective. It has many uses, is guaranteed to last a long time, and doesn't decompose, splinter, or get infested with bugs.

You will help in the drive to kill fewer trees by choosing to use furniture constructed from plastic lumber. Saving trees is one of the most important issues with environmentalist, and individuals who are into green living. This has added to the impetus for searching for more ways to use lumber from recycled plastic, not just from an enviromental view but from an economic one also. This product doesn't involve any upkeep and it helps the environment.
