Separating Items For Recycling Centers In NJ

By Mitzi Fitzgerald

The world is what we make it and for a long time we have handled some things with total disregard. Getting rid of our debris has become one of the problems we now have to deal with. Recycling centers in NJ have been set up to aid their residents in handling this problem.

Our regular landfills have been made use of to an extent that has gone way beyond their capacity. If we were to keep up as we have been there would be no places left that could hold trash. The reason for this is modern containers cannot break down and deteriorate into the soil. Add to that the toxins that are in many of our cleaning products and we have water supplies that are becoming contaminated.

Besides the items that do nor break down in the soil, attention has also been given to toxins in the ground. These toxins have been known to damage water supplies that our wildlife uses to survive on. The old way of doing things no longer fits the world we live in today.

The things we dispose of has to be put out in three different ways. All paper and paper products must be kept separate from other items. Corrugated cardboard, newspapers, magazines, and books are just a few of the many items that can be recycled. In just a few steps it goes back into usable paper products.

Glass, plastic, and metal can be combined in one container. It must all be rinsed out before placing it for pick-up. If you are questioning a piece of trash, check the bottom of the container. There you will find a code inside of a triangle. If you do not see one, it is most likely that this item should be placed in with the regular trash.

Years ago when you bought a soft drink, you paid a deposit on the bottle. That procedure has been instituted once more. Soda pop, beer, and a number of other items will require a deposit when you you purchase them. After the product is used, just return to the store with the empty container and you will have your money refunded. Think how much room is saved by getting just these things out of the landfills.

Recycling has not been met with agreement by everyone. For some, it is just another thing the states are asking us to do. Some of the same ones are those who complain the most about the condition the world is in. Still others are using their own waste products consisting of grass and leaves and turning them into compost piles that make a great natural fertilizer.

Recycling centers in NJ and all of our states are striving for a planet that promotes healthy living. It may be a bit unnerving to have to follow these practices but remember the reasons why you are doing it. It will make our planet a great place to live for centuries to come.
