Advantages Of Well Drilling Equipment

By Lana Bray

Well drilling equipment refers to the machinery required in the digging of boreholes so as to access underground sources of water. These usually occur in a number of designs depending on a number of factors among which there is availability, affordability as well as skill.

The first tool that is the most modern and most effective so far, is that of the use of large drilling equipment. These tools are very large in size. They in most cases are used in urban areas by the modernized people. However, they may also be used even in rural areas where the land or ground is too hard to be drilled by ordinary tools such as hoes.

The use of this tool is advantageous compared to the second category. Firstly, it can be used on whatever type of soil, hard as it may be. Also, it can be used to predict which sites are good well digging sites and which ones are not. As such, energy and money is not wasted in digging places where water is not available. Besides, the working of this tool is very fast and can be done in a few hours.

However, there also are disadvantages. Among them is the fact that the tool is very expensive making its use quite selective. Much as the local people are the ones that need it most, it can be afforded by those that do not need it much, making it almost useless then. Also, the force it generates destabilizes the land and can lead to effects of these, which include landslides.

The next method that may be employed is usually rather manual. Here, the owner just needs to decide on drilling the hole. Nobody confirms whether the selected place is viable, but somehow, using their traditional or rather local predictions, a site is established. People are then contracted to come and drill the hole using hoes and mallets, which is a very local method.

The advantages of this method are that it allows for creation of jobs, since the local people can be contracted to work on the drilling. Also, it is more secure taking into consideration that its effects to the land are much localized and cannot go further than a meter away.

The disadvantages however outweigh the advantages. The digging of the wells using this equipment is done under the trial and error policy. Here, people just dig hoping to get water, which may be absent. This therefore leaves empty holes that may be very dangerous to the residents especially if they accidentally drop inside. Also, the activity is extremely tedious, involving and very boring. The owner might also end up spending too much because whether or not water is found, labor has to be catered for. The process takes very long too.

Well drilling equipment is usually available in the market in its various capacities. What matters is how affordable it can be to one. However, the high cost of the modernized one should be reduced to allow the needy people to also access it. Many people have resorted to digging wells even if they have tapped water, because at times, that one might not be so much relied on. More people are also struggling harder to get the modern equipment.
