Green Energy Tips For Your Home

By Merv Carlson

There are more and more people deciding to go green these days to protect our environment. In this article, you will be provided with some basic green energy tips that can be applied in your household.

For outdoor lighting in the yard, you can install solar powered lights. This is a cheap investment since this kind of lamps are not so expensive. They use the sun light only, so they save energy and you save some money each month.

Another way to "go green" is to use warm water in a smart way. If there are five members in your family, all the members should take a quick shower at once to help cut down the overall energy usage. You should make sure not to heat the water too many times in a day. Instead, you should heat the water once, and then use up all the water for multiple purposes: washing dishes, taking a bath.

Many people nowadays choose to install solar energy system on the roof of their houses to utilize the solar power. By installing this system, you can make use of the solar power to heat the water and use the hot water for taking a shower, washing dishes and doing laundry. If you live in a region which does not provide enough sun light, then you can purchase a small traditional water heater.

One more way to live green is to take advantage of the sun and the wind to dry your wet clothes. On sunny days, you should take out all your wet clothes instead of using the dryer. The dryer should be used only on rainy days. The dryer can dry your wet clothes, but it can not bring the fresh smell for your clothes like the way the sun does.

If you are aiming to save energy and money, try running the dishwasher only when the load is completely full. Don't run it when there are a low number of dishes present. Dishwashers can usually hold many dishes. When loading the dishwasher, align the dishes in a way that allows you to fit the maximum number of items inside.

Go green on your coffee break by bringing your own cup. If you usually order a Tall Latte at Starbucks, bring a tall re-usable coffee mug with you. Every time you ask your favorite coffee shop to mix your drink in your own cup, you are helping to green your environment.

The tips in this article are many, but they are all so easy to use that you'll be able to implement each within your own home. Make the changes necessary and monitor the benefits you get from each, then you can select which are working and which don't fit your needs. You'll be energy-independent in no time!
